Church History

The history of the Carpentersville Baptist Church began over ninety-two(92) years ago when the church spirit began to hover over the Landon Hill Community. A group of concerned Christians came to the Carpentersville School where the Willing Workers Club was holding a meeting. Mrs. Susie A. Stephens was the club president. Reverend Walton Carr, along with Brothers John Simpkins, John Holloway and others, asked permission to conduct prayer service in the school building. Brother Thomas Brown, being a Christian man, readily accepted the challenge. Realizing the need for a church in the community, Reverend Walton Carr along with the assistance of Sister Idella Colbert, Brothers John Simpkins, Bert Colbert, John Holloway and others began to move forward toward the cause of organizing a church for the Carpentersville Community.

In March of the year 1925, the church was organized by Reverend L. C. Johnson and was named by Jessie Bostic. The founders were: Reverend Walton Carr; Reverend L. C. Johnson; Sis. Susie A. Stephens; Reverend Thomas Brown; Jessie Bostic; Nathan Brannon; Harry Bryant; Grover Cofer; Bert Colbert; Idella Colbert; Arthur Grayson; John Holloway; Peter Key; John Ryans; John Simpkins; Willie Washington. The first pastor was Reverend Walton Carr and the first member baptized at the newly founded church was Rhunette Allen White. Since that time, seven (7) Pastors have served the church. During the church's history, there have been a total of seven (7) Sons of the House, and one (1) Daughter of the House.

The current Pastor is the Reverend Herman Bing, who has served since January of 1986. Carpentersville is experiencing dynamic leadership from our Pastor in a holistic ministry. His energy and enthusiasm can be seen in the growth and ministries of our church. Over three hundred (300) members have united with Carpentersville under his leadership. With increased membership, many changes have taken place with organization, reformation, and establishment of ministries, choirs, and staff. Currently there are twenty-two (22) ministries and five (5) choirs all prayerfully serving the needs of the membership. On Sunday, February 25, 2001, under the leadership of Pastor Bing, the congregation moved into its new sanctuary and fellowship hall; also, several parcels of land have been purchased for anticipated future growth. Down through the years God has been exceedingly good to the Carpentersville Baptist Church Family. We praise His name for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us, His children.
